As a cyclist, you should know that a new CT state law applies to you, and to all
motorists on the road with you. A new 3-foot safe passing law is in effect in
Connecticut. Cyclists have the most to benefit from this law, but also have the
responsibility to cycle safely. Always ride to the right of the road surface. Use
bike lanes and marked routes whenever possible. Ride single file when in a
group. Wear a helmet. Wear bright clothing with reflective markings. Use proper
lights and reflectors if you're riding at night. Ride with traffic, signal your turns,
and be predictable. Walk your bike if it's too busy to cross safely. Stay alert at
all times.

How Do I Get To The Bridge?
A frequent question in New London, and something BIKE NL is working on as one of
our first projects in the city. There is a good, accessible, safe bike path over the
Gold Star Bridge (I-95) to Groton. Access to this route is from Williams Street, behind
Mr. G's restaurant. The end of Bailey Circle is the entrance to the Gold Star Bridge
Bike and Pedestrian Walkway.
For GPS users, the address is 452 Williams St. Click below for the CT DOT map of
the bridge crossing.

Where Do I Go From The Bridge?
PLEASE do not follow the DOT's instructions on their map for access from the
bridge bike path. There is a much safer way to go.
To get to Downtown New London: Exit the bridge onto Bailey Circle.
Enter Williams St (you will see a Citgo station across the street.) Turn right on Williams
Street to go to downtown. Ride to the next traffic light. Turn left onto Huntington St.
Follow Huntington to State St. (The NL Public Library and Garde Theater will be on your left)
Ride State St. to Union St. for access to NL City Hall or the US Post Office. Continue to
the end for access to Union Station for connections to Amtrak, Shoreline East, SEAT
or Greyhound bus service, Fisher's Island, Long Island, and Block Island Ferries.

To get to Connecticut College or the US Coast Guard Academy:
Turn left from bike route onto Williams St. At the next traffic light, turn right to access
the entrance to the US Coast Guard Academy.
Continue straight on Williams St. for access to Conn College campus, the Arboretum,
Williams School, and the Lyman Allyn Art Museum.
