Bike New London Assists City with Bike Lane Planning

Members of Bike New London's Maps and Routes Committee
were invited to meet with the Public Works Department, City Planner, City Council Transportation
Committee members and other officials in September 2010. We assisted the City in research
and compliance with State and Federal (AASHTO) requirements for Bicycle Lanes, Bicycle Routes,
pavement paint markings and signage.
These improvements will benefit cyclists, pedestrians, and motorists in the City of New London.
Montauk Avenue is nearly complete with new pavement, new signage, and new bicycle lanes for
its entire length. This is a great example of cooperation between municipal authorities and
transportation advocacy groups!

WHALE BIKE RACK

Local blacksmith Susan Madacsi has created a beautiful, one-of-a-kind bike rack for Jennings Elementary School!

In partnership with Bike New London and Freedom Trail Neighborhood Association,
funding was obtained through the New London Office of Development and Planning and the Neighborhood Alliance
to build this unique bicycle rack as a gift to our newly rebuilt elementary school.

This new rack, soon to be installed at Jennings School on Mercer St, will give children a secure place to
keep their bicycles when they ride to school.

Bike New London volunteers will be helping to install this rack soon with the help of New London Public Works.
The new rack was shown off at the Main Street Food Stroll in October. Volunteers brought several of
our Bike Share New London bikes down to show off how well the whale rack works!

FOOD STROLL BIKE VALET

We will be providing a Bicycle Valet service for folks visiting New London for the Food Stroll on Wednesday, May 13th.

The goal is to provide a worry-free, easy to use service for bicyclists attending the food stroll event.
